In many areas of modern day packaging, Plastic has replaced the glass and/or metal packaging due to its relatively low-production cost and lighter weight. Albeit there other factors that come into consideration, resulting in a guarantee of quantum business.

Plastic packaging also involves more complications in terms of grades and the type of Plastic Resin used. The following being the available types:

  • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) – Recycle code “2”
  • Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) – Recycle code “4”
  • Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET, PETE) – Recycle code “1”
  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
  • Polypropylene (PP) – Recycle code “5”
  • Polystyrene (PS)

Note: Recycle codes represent that these grades of Plastic are checked for ‘Food Safety’

Pre-forms

Depending on the type of plastic used and the nature; pure &/or recycled, the end result is obtained. Another factor which plays a major part in the initial cost of packaging is the resin form used to create the pre-form of the plastic container. This can be obtained from numerous sources as a stock pre-form and/or a bespoke pre-form; created according to the specifications of the client.

Printing/ Labeling

Plastic containers can be labeled using a variety of mechanisms; these are more than the globally available for metal containers.

Plastic containers can be labeled using the following mediums:

  • Shrink Wraps / Sleeves
  • In-mould Labeling (IML)
  • Heat Transfer (Thermal Printing)
